Simply Gloria.

Lets start with the habits of the beautiful women wearing HABITS. Simple, joyful and giddy. That is how I can best describe the director of VIDES USA, Sr. Mary Gloria Mar. I spent 17 days with her in Texas, while training for my time of service. Radiating with enthusiasm for her work, it is clear that Sr. Gloria’s life is filled with purpose.

At the training Sr. Gloria shared her thesis on Life Accompaniment. In this thesis she emphasizes the value of people being present with others. A continual presence in one’s relationships establishes confidence; others gain confidence with one’s self and are “at home with themselves”. In turn, people are able to discover the truth in themselves.

To discover the truth in your self could be the most rewarding experience. People search daily for jobs, possessions, or outside stimuli to satisfy their hunger to obtain a purpose in life. BUT, when one knows their purpose/truth they may engage in that truth to their very fullest each day.

Think about how powerful an influence a person has on another. To think WE can help each other find their own truth. That is such a gift; a gift to be given and received.

I continue to search everyday for my truth. As I prepare to leave for Spain in less than a week I get excited for the potential growth that is ahead of me. Such potential lays in the opportunity to delve into a better knowledge and understanding of my personal truth.

Sr. Gloria keeps me laughing when I think about the depth of knowledge she has. Yet, at the same time, she is so incredibly human. I relished witnessing little quirks of her personality.
